The Mathematics Department at Tulane University will choose eight high school teachers to work with members of the Mathematics Department in our Research Experiences for Teachers program.
The general topics of study will be problems in:

  • Algebra, and
  • Euclidean and non-Euclidean geometry

The program is designed for teachers with a good working knowledge of calculus who teach geometry and/or calculus or plan to teach either of these subjects. This full-time program will involve consultation with the Mathematics faculty, individual study and problem solving, and collaboration with other teachers.

In order to qualify you:

  • must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident

Dates:   June 1 - July 26, 2006

Stipends: Each teacher will receive a stipend of $8,000.

Deadline: The deadline for applications is April 10, 2006.

We particularly encourage qualified women and members of minority groups to apply.

  • two letters of reference from the school where you are currently employed;
  • if you have done university level mathematics work during the last 5 years, one of the two letters should be from a mathematics faculty member.
  • a copy of relevant college transcripts showing prior work in mathematics
