Edward Daire Conway

1937-1985
Edward Daire Conway III was born on February 7, 1937, in New Orleans,
Louisiana. He received his B.S. degree in Physics from Loyola University,
New Orleans in 1959 and received his Ph.D. in Mathematics under the direction
of an internationally recognized scholar, Professor E. Hopf
from Indiana University in 1964. He spent a post-doctoral year at the
major center in his field, the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences,
1964-65, and two years at the University of California at San Diego,
1965-67. He joined the faculty of Tulane University in 1967. He
served as Chairman of the Department of Mathematics from 1973-1975 and
1980-1982. He was a member of the American
Mathematical Society, the Mathematical Association of America, the Society for
Industrial and Applied Mathematics, and the American Association for the
Advancement of Science.
